Respect tradition. Promote innovation.
We invoke this central tenet of our mission as Fontana embarks on another year of presenting the finest classical and jazz ensembles in the world. With that in mind, we bring you a season inspired by the evocative image of wet ink, reminding us that music is a living, breathing organism, constantly growing with new works and that even the beloved classics were once wet ink on the page. And as we follow that trail of wet ink through our season, we discover the thread that connects the musical past with the present and future. Beginning with a concert that links newly written works with fragmentary thoughts of past masters, to the unexpected pairing of Philip Glass and Bach, to a big band celebration of pop icon Stevie Wonder, the 2011.2012 season promises to be full of passionate performances of some of the most profound music ever written, as well as newly minted discoveries that will help the art of live music continue to evolve for years to come. Please join us.
