A Soldier's Tale
A Soldier's Tale

Dalton Center Multimedia Room- WMU - Kalamazoo, MI
With a colorful score composed by Igor Stravinsky in 1918, and based on a Russian folk tale, A Soldier's Tale follows a deserting solider who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for a book that predicts the future. Novelist Kurt Vonnegut revamped the story in 1993 to explore the life of Eddie Slovik, the only American soldier executed for desertion in World War II. After a long legal battle kept Vonnegut's adaptation from the stage for almost a decade, this masterpiece comes to life in a semi-staged production featuring violinist Soovin Kim in celebration of the fruitful partnership between Fontana and the WMU School of Music on the occasion of the School's 100th anniversary. Recommended for mature audiences.
