Though “icon” and “iconoclast” share the same root word, they are often mistakenly used interchangeably. What is the difference? While an icon is the object of adoration, iconoclasts break with convention in order to dismantle the symbols of our culture and society, finding new ways forward. In the 2009.2010 season Fontana explores this dichotomy and, in doing so, forges a new direction in artistic excellence.
