Ten years ago at the dawn of a new millennium, the generous supporters of the Chamber Music Society and the Fontana Concert Society made the momentous decision to combine resources and merge the two organizations to form Fontana Chamber Arts. As with any merger, sacrifices and compromises were made, but what emerged is a dynamic organization, nationally recognized by its peers for adventurous programming and dedicated to bringing the world’s finest musicians to Kalamazoo.
Reaching this milestone allows us to view our past with pride and look to our future with eager anticipation. As we celebrate music through the ages, from the 13th Century to present day, we invite you to join us for the full anniversary season: DECADE..

The celebration of any anniversary marks the passage of time, and so in our tenth anniversary season we explore music through the ages. From its earliest beginnings in the medieval period to present day, chamber music has been a reflection of the changes in technology and the society that produced it. The 2010.2011 season offers a chance to experience everything from medieval music sung by Anonymous 4 to daring new directions in jazz taken by the Vijay Iyer Trio to new works and sounds from Sō Percussion. As we follow the many paths music has taken through history, we pay special attention to the pathfinders who created the American music tradition—a 20th-century story of immigrant influences, the avant-garde, and jazz.
